A Bitter Pill for the Yachting Industry

A Fine Example of a Safe and Well Trained Yacht Program

Background: After experiencing the delinquency of comprehension levels among both new and not-so-new yacht crew that carry STCW and other standard brick-and-mortar marine training courses, I have cross-referenced that against what is causing the most severe and frequent claims in the luxury yacht industry: Fire Prevention, Mechanical Breakdowns, and Human Error.

What I Found: We kept finding Stews that do not know type-differences and how to properly operate a fire extinguisher; Deckhands and Mates that do not know, or how to, regularly thermally check electrical panels; Captains that did not know what a hydraulic PTO stood for, or the purpose and function of an AIS Transponder; Owners that have no idea their Fire Stand-Pipe system has not been flow tested and was not operational immediately prior to going underway, or that the Fire Annunciator panel was dead.

Our Solution: From there, we built out a robust, but stackable course structure that addresses the root causes: Yachts need mandated and documented annual safety training in these areas. STCW, for example is renewed once every 5 years. Furthermore,  it is not mandated for private yachts not operating in commercial capacity, a gaping hole. Most crew agencies list it as a requirement in job postings, because there are no other specific and recognized on-board trainings invented or offered that is specific to each yacht and each yacht program's operational needs.

We have created a Comprehensive Crash Course Intensive Syllabus jam-packed into just 21 modules of training, broken down into 1, 3, and 5-day trainings that represent 8-hr, 24-hr, and 40-hr course curriculums.

At a minimum, a yearly 8-hour Fire Prevention Course that is well-documented and shared between insurance/underwriters, and Flag State of the vessel seeks to accomplish its mission: To enhance safety and reduce risk in the marine insurance industry by delivering expert-led, data-driven yacht crew training 60-days prior to renewal that provides measurable value to common Flag State Luxury Yachts, insurance partners, protects assets, and saves lives.

Marine Insurance carriers operate with slim margins, and operate mostly in the blind to the actual risks that their policies are covering, perhaps a strengthened approach is a better idea. One that would double back to pre-purchase survey findings and hopefully offer improvements made, or report deficiencies uncovered, addressed, and actions taken to rectify...

Our proprietary annual training follows each HIN# in its documents of records to prove a Proactive Risk Mitigation Strategy is in place and being adhered to.

It is called the MARINE ANNUAL RISK INSURANCE ASSESSMENT STRATEGY (MARIAS™️) - VERITAS NAVIS REVELARE™️ (translates to "Reveal the Truth of the Ship").

In short: it's Traveling Proactive Annual Marine Risk Mitigation
